Rodney K. Odom: A Seeker's Journey

Rodney’s life has been a pilgrimage of faith. Raised in Philadelphia by parents with Southern roots, his spiritual path wound through Baptist and Presbyterian churches before leading him to a period of agnosticism after high school.

It was during his service in the U.S. Navy that a seed of faith began to grow again. A slow, yet profound, conversion unfolded, culminating in a monastic calling. From 2004 to 2009, Rodney prepared for monastic life, entering a Trappist monastery in 2009. He aspired to permanent monastic life from 2010 to mid-2015, but then returned to his hometown of Philadelphia.

Rodney’s lifelong pursuit has been to grapple with the enduring questions of human existence. Science offered no solace, and his writing delves into the reasons for his evolving faith. His poems, collected in the unpublished manuscript “Writings from the Desert,” were the first expressions of this exploration. Now, as a practicing Roman Catholic contemplating a hermit’s life, Rodney’s books delve deeper into the spiritual journey of life with God.

Driven by a desire to share this unique experience and affect others like him, Rodney invites readers to explore the depths of faith alongside him. Through his writing, he hopes to illuminate the path for those seeking a deeper connection with the divine.
